Young Cocoa celebrates a tale of two cities in new song “Fadeaway”

June 16, 2023

The sophisticated, hip-hop track will be part of his upcoming EP, Sari Sari

Filipino hip-hop artist Young Cocoa expresses great respect and honor to the two places that he calls home in a crossover track bursting with lush sounds and sophisticated melodies.

His new single “Fadeaway” serves as a love letter to Manilaand Jakarta—two culturally distinct but vibrant cities that cultivated his upbringing and sense of self through the years.

Young Cocoa explains, “Fadeaway is about celebrating my twohomes, Jakarta and Manila. I wanted to try and integrate my experiences into the song and translate it into a message where I take pride in owning both places that I truly call home.”

Produced by his go-to collaborator and friend Trizzy, “Fadeaway” shines with unmistakable presence on first listens. Credit goes to Trizzy for allowing YC’s youthful, nostalgic lyrics to soar over catchy, sinuous beats and genre-hopping production in a seamless manner. Both Young Cocoa and Trizzy bring star power, subtlety, and quality to a surefire bop that runs perfectly with the narrative’s “conscious effort of expression and the passion of being young and yet wanting to be remembered by everyone.”

“I think in general we wanted to keep it lighthearted and laidback, in tune with most of my music,” shares the young trailblazer. “A lot of this track is carried by the production and melodies introduced into the song, as well as the work Trizzyput in to try to tailor the beat to certain dynamics of the lyrics I wrote.”

According to Young Cocoa, “Fadeaway” embodies the central theme of his upcoming new EP, Sari Sari, to be released soon under OFFMUTE. He also takes pride in how the song proved to be a testament to his growth as an artist and a budding producer trying to understand the jargon behind the process. Thankfully, he has Trizzy to back him up in setting up his music journey.

“I always have a great time working with a young mind like his, and we have great chemistry with each other,” Young Cocoa adds. “In general, we both push each other out of our comfort zones to try and get the best out of our work, and I think that’s awesome.”

Young Cocoa’s “Fadeaway” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via OFFMUTE and Sony Music Entertainment.

About Young Cocoa

As one of the most promising hip-hop artists in the Southeast Asian region, OFFMUTE signee Young Cocoa quickly rose to fame after BTS’ resident rapper RM included his track “Manila” in one of the global superstar’s online playlists. The trailblazing bop, which finds the Filipino artist rapping over lo-fi beats and jazzy soundscapes, eventually went viral, and received endorsements and playlist inclusions from Korean artists such as RM of BTS, Jay of ENHYPEN, Yeri of Red Velvet, Eric of The Boyz, Omega X, Dawon of SF19 and Lia Kim from 1Million Dance Studio.

Currently based in Manila, the 24-year-old rapper and songwriter has established himself as genre-averse artist whose music draws a lot from his personal narratives and observations on life. With groove-oriented production and smooth urban sound, Young Cocoa’s work explores a diverse range of genres and sonic template that often reflects a state of dreaminess and escape, but whose verses embrace the confessional and authentic side of storytelling.

The eclectic Filipino artist considers Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Anderson Paak., Saba and Tyler TheCreator as some of his music influences. He works with some of the most underrated and innovative hip-hop and electronic producers in Asia, from Korean-based beatmaker Lazy Wanderlust to Indonesia’s very own Ghidd. Blending his own artistry with sonic collages set up by his collaborators, Young Cocoa provides a unique music stamp with layers of childlike nostalgia, countryside daydream, and city futurism, and touches on themes derived from his experiences as a third culture kid.

As the first hip-hop artist under pan-regional music label, OFFMUTE, Young Cocoa is determined to push the Southeast Asian sound to the next level, while retaining his personhood in the creative process. He is currently working on new songs off his debut EP to be released soon.

His first official single is “Zesto,” a bouncy electro-pop tune that reimagines the very definition of a summer anthem.

Ebe Dancel to headline first major concert in Cebu City

June 14, 2023

The highly anticipated show will feature a career-spanning set from the artist, as well as the big screen debut of ‘Sa Wakas’ documentary

Cebu City, Philippines, June 14 2023 – Filipino singer-songwriter Ebe Dancel will be staging his first major concert in Cebu on August 5, 2023 (Saturday), from 7pm onwards, at the Pacific Grand Ballroom in the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Presented by GNN Entertainment Productions and Artist Ko Multi-purpose Cooperative, in partnership with Balcony Entertainment, Ebe Dancel Live In Cebu will feature his career-spanning work as a solo artist and as the frontman of the iconic pop-rock band Sugarfree.

“Ebe Dancel's first major concert in Cebu is long overdue,” Artist Ko Multi-purpose Cooperative Vice Chairman Jude Gitamondoc shares in a press statement. “Ebe has a lot of solid fans in the Visayas, and we want them to experience Ebe's artistry closer to home. Cebuanos love Ebe because he is authentic. His songs have grit, intellect, and integrity, the stuff we expect and value in our own artists. We can't wait for Cebuanos to experience all that in the flesh come August 5.”

Best known as the proponent and organizer of Vispop, the songwriting campaign that brought Bisaya music into the mainstream, Artist Ko will be teaming up with concert promoter GNN Entertainment Productions to mark an auspicious start for a meaningful partnership in the live music scene and bring more engaging events to Cebu in the near future.

Gitamondoc adds, “Part of that success was our sensitivity to the Cebuano audience—what they like to hear, what they are drawn to. Cebu is not just a city. It is a community with a strong identity and a lot of shared values. So when GNN Entertainment Productions approached us to partner with them for this event, that signalled to us their commitment to be respectful to the community.”

Aside from Ebe Dancel’s headlining set, the highly anticipated show will also mark the big-screen debut of theSa Wakas documentary, which was shot and produced early this year to mark the 20th anniversary of the landmark album. Its director, producer, and creator Cyrian Agujo, will be attending and presenting the film for the first time to the Cebu audience.

Guest performances from Manila and Cebu acts will also be revealed in the coming days/weeks, with the latter being specifically handpicked by Ebe Dancel himself.

With critically acclaimed albums, sold-out concerts, and chart-topping songs under his belt, Ebe Dancel has established himself as one of the biggest pop/rock crossovers of the last two decades.

His biggest hits include "Huwag Ka Nang Umiyak," "Hari Ng Sablay," "Mariposa," "Burn Out," "Tulog Na," "Prom," "Telepono," "Cuida," "Bawat Daan," and more!

Tickets to Ebe Dancel Live In Cebu are available for purchase starting June 14, 2023 (Wednesday) at 6pm via bit.ly/ebexcebu.

Save for the rainy day with Mr. Hat Gulaman

June 14, 2023

JUNE 2023/ MANILA Faced with rising cost of living and higher prices of goods and services, many of us are faced with the challenge of stretching our hard-earned money, finding new ways to earn extra, and tucking in some savings for the rainy day.

For teenagers who wish to augment their allowances, part time jobs are usually their first option. But what if they need to babysit younger siblings while parents are at work? Or what if they need to study for an exam? For senior citizens who wish to find stuff to do to alleviate boredom and still earn on the side, what are the options?

Why not tap Mr. Hat Gulaman and make and sell made-to-order jelly? It is fun and easy to make, Mr. Hat Gulaman jelly powder and other ingredients are inexpensive, it is affordable for most households, and most of all, it is delicious. Jelly is everyone’s comfort food and traditional party food. It could also be an everyday meryenda or sweet ending to lunch, baon or dinner.

Food is always something everyone needs. For busy families, happy food such as a colorful jelly on the table can lift moods and put smiles on their faces. The humble jelly or gulaman is a happy dessert that will always be welcomed on Filipinos’ tables.

Teenagers and their lolos and lolas can bond over this home-based “business.” While earning pocket money and adding to their savings, they also get to make memories that they will treasure for the rest of their lives. Plus, lolos and lolas can pass on their traditional jelly recipes to their teenage apos. Or they can check out meryenda recipes on the Mr. Hat Gulaman website https://seanlucinc.com/recipes/?category=mr-hat-gulaman and make them together.

Bonding and earning over Mr. Hat Gulaman jelly desserts

The first and third generation can learn from each other with their joint made-to-order jelly side business. Teenage apos, for example, can lead the “branding” and “marketing” side of their “business” through social media posts or messages to their target “markets” - relatives, neighbors, classmates, friends, parents’ co-workers.

The first generation - lolos and lolas - meanwhile, can supervise the “production” side. This include choosing ingredients such as Mr. Hat Gulaman’s various flavors, making gulaman following traditional recipes everyone grew up with or following Mr. Hat Gulaman’s recipes, and making sure every dessert is made with love, care and proper hygiene.

Both can come up with the initial capital, work on the packaging, pricing, and delivery.

Taste test using Mr. Hat Gulaman

Now it’s time to let people know of your side business! Make gulaman and bring some to your target market and have them taste your products. Take nice photos of the yummy meryendaand eye-popping, colorful desserts and post them online as well! Post photos and videos of lolos, lolas and apos making the gulaman, too.

What are the favorite gulaman meryenda and desserts we all love? Some love plain, wiggly jelly in different flavors and colors. Some love cathedral window jelly or gulaman made with milk and colorful jellies. Some love gulaman made with fruits in season. Some like gulaman with coffee flavor. Crema de fruta and jelly pudding are also all-time favorites.

Mr. Hat Gulaman jelly powder flavors include buko pandan, mango, orange, lychee, strawberry, grape and coffee. Mr. Hat Gulaman’s unflavored gulaman comes in black, orange, yellow, white, red and green colors.

Bring some gummies in different shapes, themes, colors and flavors for everyone to try. These are perfect office snacks to nibble on, fun baon for kids, and even party favors.

Go with Mr. Hat Gulaman

To ensure quality, pick Mr. Hat Gulaman as your primary ingredient for your made-to-order jellies, flans, puddings and gummies.

Mr. Hat Gulaman is a product of Philippine-based food and beverage company Seanluc, Inc. Its jelly powder is made from the finest natural seaweed extract and a unique blend of carrageenan, sugar, flavorings and colorings. Carrageenan is a type of seaweed-derived ingredient that is commonly used as a gelling agent in food products.

Purchase Mr. Hat Gulaman at Lazada, Shopee and other retail stores nationwide.

Jemay Santiago marks new chapter in her career with R&B-inspired debut single “May Iba Na Ba”

June 14, 2023

The bedroom jam channels her pre-breakup feelings with incredibly honesty and rawness

Sony Music Entertainment has recently signed Filipino newcomer Jemay Santiago, whose hypnotic persona and sultry singing style serve as a great addition to the label’s diverse pool of talented music acts.

According to Jemay, working with the international record label is a dream come true, and inspires her to explore her artistry without hesitation.

“Music is my passion, and I’ve always wanted this dream,” said Jemay. “It’s an opportunity I would never skip. I personally and confidently believe that this record label will handle me conscientiously.”

Favoring an expressive but understated approach to contemporary pop and R&B, the rising act marks a new chapter in her career with the release of “May Iba Na Ba,” her official debut single.

A sensuous slow jam that glides atop butter-smooth production and trap beats, “May Iba Na Ba” reflects on a rollercoaster of doubt and insecurities, while navigating a romantic relationship that is headed towards going astray.

“The song talks about my feelings, thoughts, and emotions during a pre-breakup with my previous relationship,” Jemay explains. “At some point, it made me question my worth of being loved. May IBa Na Ba sums up that bleak phase in my life. I want to capture its essence and rawness through music.”

Penned by the rising soloist herself and produced, mixed, and mastered by frequent collaborator Gussy Sauce, “May IBa Na Ba” skirts on the periphery of bedroom pop and R&B with a more daring approach to sonic direction while remaining true to her core as an artist.

“We explored and went outside our boxes so we could do better music together,” the teen rookie shares. “We were able to achieve that in the name of art and music, as we want to break barriers between local and international music and influences while bringing our own spin to it.”

“May IBa Na Ba” will be part of Jemay’s tentatively titled debut album, PAHINGA, and will be accompanied by a music video to be released soon.

The song is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment. Listen here.

Fra Lippo Lippi’s two-day concert in the Philippines, happening this week!

June 12, 2023

Fra Lippo Lippi will be staging a two-day concert this week:The Theatre at Solaire on June 16, 2023, Friday, and the Santa Rosa Sports Complex on June 17, 2023, Saturday.

The Norwegian pop act, headed by lead vocalist and keyboardist Per Sorensen, returns in Manila and Laguna for a concert that asserts their influence as one of the defining acts of the new wave era.

Earlier this month, Fra Lippo Lippi’s Per Sorensen guested at ABS-CBN’s Showtime to promote his upcoming two-day concert, produced by DMC Philippines. He also expressed his gratitude to the Filipino fans who have shown unwavering love and support to his music during an intimate press con last June 12, 2023 at the Kingsford Hotel in Paranaque City, Metro Manila.

“I’m always grateful to the Philippines for the warm welcome that they give me every time I visit the country to do a show,” the ‘80s pop icon shares. “I’m excited to grace the concert stage once again and perform some of the biggest hits of my career, along with some personal favorites.”

Fra Lippo Lippi is best known for their worldwide hits, including classics such as "Everytime I See You," "Beauty and Madness," "Stitches and Burns," "Light and Shade," "The Distance Between Us," "Angel," and more.

After bassist and founding co-member Rune Kristoffer decided to call it quits, Per Sorensen kept the band’s music alive through live concert tours all around the world, with the Philippines as one of its regular stops.

In 2002, Per Sorensen and his band released "Later," a chart-topping smash in Asia and the rest of Europe. He even managed to collaborate with Filipino R&B star Kyla on "Wish We Were Two," which garnered heavy airplay on various top 40 stations in Manila and major cities across the Philippines.

This event is supported by Steve Hovington of B-Movie, who will be performing with Fra Lippo Lippi’s Per Sorensen at both venues: The Theatre at Solaire on June 16, 2023, Friday, and the Santa Rosa Sports Complex on June 17, 2023, Saturday.

The event is presented by New DMC Entertainment Production Management, Maui & Sons, and The Rail.

STEPHANIE POETRI RELEASES HER NEW SINGLE “ASTROLOGICALLY ILLOGICAL” OUT NOW VIA INFINITE THRILLS/88RISING

June 9, 2023

“ASTROLOGICALLY ILLOGICAL”

LISTEN // WATCH // ARTWORK

Los Angeles, CA (June 9, 2023) - The Indonesian-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Stephanie Poetri has released her bold and delightfully cheeky new single “Astrologically Illogical,” out today via Infinite Thrills/88Rising. While her music has been known for its soft, ethereal qualities that come through in her stunning alto voice, this song marks an exciting new chapter of powerful vocals, edgy lyrical prowess, and a healthy dose of indie-pop/indie-rock inspiration that is part of Poetri’s musical DNA. With this single, Poetri is inserting daring feminine energy into the pop-rock world.

Born on May 20th, Poetri taps into her Taurus qualities for inspiration, writing about a relationship that she finds to be successful, despite the two parties’ astrological signs being incompatible. Poetri says about the song, “I was inspired by this culture of checking our compatibility with one another through astrology. Based on my own experiences, even with signs I’m supposed to be compatible with, it doesn’t always feel accurate. So this song is a fun critique on how astrology doesn’t seem to work for me.”

Poetri has always possessed an uncanny ability to exhibit authenticity in her music, stemming from her strong songwriting sensibilities and desire to share relatable experiences with her fans. This authenticity connected right away, with her 2019 viral hit, "I Love You 3000,” reaching over 365 million streams to date, including 156 million views on the DIY video she and her sister made to accompany it, and a remix version, “I Love You 3000 II,” featuring Jackson Wang.

“Astrologically Illogical” follows the release of Poetri's latest tracks, “No Explanations” (with Elephante and ZHANG YANQI)” and “Breakfast in Bed” (with gnash).” Stephanie is performing her new music on tour with Lyn Lapid this summer, as well as at Head in the Clouds Festival in Los Angeles, CA in August.

About Stephanie Poetri

Like her name suggests, Stephanie Poetri’s music has a softness to it, an ethereal quality that comes through crystal clear in her stunning alto voice. Originally, her very first single, “I Love You 3000,” was just a snippet for social media, but the overwhelmingly positive response from Poetri’s followers sent her back to the studio to transform it into a full song. Stephanie followed that up by signing with transformative, internet-savvy powerhouse 88rising, a tastemaking giant for Asian talent, and a move to Los Angeles, which allowed her to explore the other areas of artistic expression. Along with music, Poetri’s creative background includes a love for visual arts and video games, both of which have been a big part of her aesthetic as an artist. In this new era, she’s incorporating edgier rock sounds into her own music, and a healthy dose of indie pop and indie rock is forever part of Poetri’s musical DNA. Citing contemporaries like Beabadoobee, Julia Michaels, Lizzy McAlpine, Gracie Abrams—and the ever-present touchstone of Taylor Swift—Poetri has been working on plenty of new material and is ready to enter into a new phase.

Last summer, NIKI released her sophomore album Nicole, a project that sees her where she shines, returning to her singer-songwriter roots in a carefully crafted coming-of-age juncture that sees present-day NIKI meet with her teenage self. ABOUT NIKI

Since breaking through with her 2018 EP Zephyr, NIKI has made a powerful imprint on the pop scene, amassing a devoted global fanbase with over 2.1 billion streams to date and making history as the first Indonesian artist ever to perform at Coachella. But after delivering her critically acclaimed debut album MOONCHILD, the Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter felt compelled to completely reexamine her artistic process—a move that found her revisiting the vast catalog of unfiltered and indie-folk-leaning songs she’d created in high school. As she returned to the stream-of-consciousness approach to songwriting that defined her earliest material, the 23-year-old musician soon arrived at her sophomore album Nicole: a boldly self-possessed body of work written entirely by NIKI, spotlighting her finespun storytelling and warmly expressive vocals more fully than ever before. With the album’s first half comprised of new or never-before-heard songs and its latter half featuring her favorite tracks from her widely beloved YouTube channel, NIKI imbues her songs with the kind of lived-in specificity that immediately reconnects the listener with the rush and devastation of their own first love.
